The%20jackpot%20jumped%20to%20%24850%20million%20after%20no%20winner%20was%20declared%20after%20Friday%27s%20drawing%2C%20and%20then%20suddenly%20rose%20again%20to%20%24865%20million%20a%20few%20hours%20ahead%20of%20Tuesday%27s%20drawing.%20This%20does%20not%20only%20mark%20the%20second-largest%20prize%20in%20the%20game%u2019s%20history%2C%20but%20it%27s%20also%20the%20third-largest%20prize%20in%20U.S.%20lottery%20history.

Powerball%2C%20another%20lottery%20game%20offered%20in%20most%20part%20of%20the%20United%20States%2C%20isn%u2019t%20far%20behind%20at%20%24730%20million%20for%20a%20drawing%20Wednesday%20night.

This%20is%20the%20very%20first%20time%20that%20both%20lottery%20jackpots%20have%20topped%20%24700%20million.%20The%26nbsp%3Bbiggest%20prize%26nbsp%3Bwon%20till%20date%20was%20in%202016%2C%20a%20%241.58%20billion%20Powerball%20jackpot%20by%20three%20people.%20No%20one%20has%20won%20the%20Mega%20Millions%20jackpot%20since%20Sept.%2015%2C%20resulting%20the%20prize%20money%20to%20grow%20larger%20and%20larger%20over%20four%20months.%20The%20last%20Powerball%20jackpot%20winner%20was%20a%20day%20later%2C%20on%20Sept.%2016.

These%20huge%20jackpots%20are%20very%20rare%2C%20but%20both%20games%20depend%20on%20incredibly%20long%20odds%20to%20generate%20attention%20and%20increase%20sales.%20For%20Mega%20Millions%2C%20the%20odds%20of%20matching%20all%20six%20numbers%20is%20one%20in%20302.5%20million%2C%20and%20for%20Powerball%20it%u2019s%20one%20in%20292.2%20million.

The%20prizes%20listed%20are%20for%20winners%20who%20choose%20an%20annuity%20option%20that%20is%20paid%20over%2030%20years.%20Winners%20mostly%20go%20for%20cash%20prizes%2C%20which%20for%20Mega%20Millions%20would%20be%20%24638.8%20million%20and%20%24546%20million%20for%20Powerball.%20Those%20prizes%20also%20would%20be%20subject%20to%20federal%20taxes%2C%20and%20most%20states%20would%20take%20a%20cut%20as%20well.
