Michael Steele was praised on social media for bringing in a Jesus reference while responding to fellow Republican Marjorie Taylor Greene’s ‘step mother’ comment on Randi Weingarten.
MTG told Randi Weingarten, president of the American Federation of Teachers, that she is “not a biological mother” before the House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic. She added that apparently adopted parents or parents through marriage aren’t real parents because they’re “not biological.”
Steele just reminded Greene that Jesus was raised by a stepfather. “I just want to say directly to Marjorie Taylor Greene, you remember that little boy named Jesus? Well, his daddy was a stepdad.
Michael Steele was also adopted as a child, and thus, MTG‘s comment hit him hard. Th e politician tweeted on 27th April saying, “…not a biological mother…?” Well @RepMTG, the woman who adopted me, cared for me, raised me, loved me, inspired me, disciplined me, educated me and at 95 still smiles when I walk in the room didn’t need biology to be my mother. #Adoption”
In another interview, Steele also said, “To think that a Marjorie Taylor Greene could look at my mother and say she’s not a mother, well you need to shut the you know what up and step back because motherhood is something that comes from the heart.”
People on social media also went into a frenzy, with many people shocked and disgusted over MTG’s comment. Many users also praised Michael Steele for taking a stand against MTG’s appalling remarks.
One Twitter user said, “Secretary Clinton was right!! MTG and the entire MAGA are DEPLORABLE and it doesn’t get any lower than that. Michael Steele I applaud you, Rep. Maxwell Frost , and others for standing up against the Tpark MTG!! Any woman can have a child, but NOT all women are mothers! #DealineWH”.
Another user tweeted, “Good for @MichaelSteele!! He gave the idiotic, morally bankrupt Rep. #MarjorieTaylorGreene just what she deserved for her abominable and dehumanizing reduction of motherhood to biology. The GOP’s empowerment of #MTG is inexcusable.”
