Michigan State University police on Monday reacted to a bomb threat on campus.

The threat was issued at Fee Hall, which is located off Hagadorn and Wilson Roads, according to their tweet.

Officials requested that everyone leave the building and report any unclaimed parcels or suspicious activities.

Students in the class were informed that their classes would be cancelled for the rest of the day. According to the department’s Twitter page, K-9 teams have been assigned to the east wing.

Students stated that they were in the middle of an exam when the notice was delivered. Most stated that they had no additional information other than to flee the building.

Fee Hall will be closed for the rest of the day.

According to MSUPD spokesperson Dana Whyte, “Detectives with MSU Police and Public Safety are actively investigating this incident with our state and federal partners. Out of an abundance of caution, we have asked that the building remain closed for the remainder of the day while we conduct a comprehensive search of the premises to ensure the safety of our campus community.” 

Following their investigation, MSUPD officers stated on Twitter that this event is connected to other non-credible threats made on other college and university campuses across the country.

“We appreciate the assistance provided to our department during this incident by the Michigan State Police, East Lansing Police Department, Ingham County 911, and the FBI,” Whyte added in the statement. “We will provide an update when the area has been cleared and determined to be safe for re-entry.”

Individuals are requested to report any unattended parcels, suspicious behaviour, or persons to MSUPD at 517-355-2221.
