New York‘s Statue of Liberty, a symbolic representation of the United States’ freedom and democracy, will be getting a twin for itself this Independence Day. France will be gifting the city of New York a smaller-sized replica of the Lady Liberty.
The statue, which is made of bronze, will stand at a one-sixteenth the height of the original Statue of Liberty. It has been nicknamed the ‘little sister’, reported CNN.
The replica statue has already been packaged and loaded into a container on Monday from the Paris’ National Museum of Arts and Crafts after being installed there for around a decade.
The ‘Little Sister’ will be set up on Ellis Island, right opposite its sibling, from July 1 to July 5, reported CNN.
France’s symbolic gift to the US for its Independence Day weighs more than 450 kilograms and is a little under 10 feet tall.
Olivier Faron, a top official from the National Museum of Arts and Crafts, said “We want to send a very simple message: Our friendship with the United States is very important, particularly at this moment. We have to conserve and defend our friendship”, reported CNN.
