The woman who was shot dead as supporters of Donald Trump stormed the Capitol building on Wednesday has been identified as Ashli Babbitt, a United States Air Force veteran and a strong supporter of the former President, according to reports.

“The woman is Ashli Babbitt, a 14-year veteran, who served four tours with the US Air Force,” San Diego TV station KUSI reported, citing the woman’s husband, according to AFP. “She was a strong supporter of President Trump,” the report added, saying the woman was from the San Diego area in southern California.

Babbitt’s Twitter account described her as a veteran adding that she loved the US. She had recently retweeted messages in support of Trump and from those coming to Washington for Wednesday’s rally.

“Nothing will stop us….they can try and try and try but the storm is here and it is descending upon DC in less than 24 hours….dark to light!”, she wrote in a tweet on Tuesday.

The woman was shot when a mob breached the security at Capitol building, allegedly using a ‘chemical irritant’ on securitymen in an attempt to stop the Congress session that was meeting to ratify Democart Joe Biden’s victory in the Presidential elections. Donald Trump has refused to accept the vote verdict and has moved several courts to challenge it.

TV channel Fox 5 reported Babbitt owned a business in San Diego with her husband, who did not come with her to Washington. “I really don’t know why she decided to do this,” her mother-in-law reportedly told the station, AFP reports.
