Officials in charge of the fire have warned that the flames could shoot up to fifty feet into the air and produce massive fire tornadoes. One may see the fire’s brightness up to three miles behind them.

Firefighting teams are letting the fire go out on its own because they are unable to actively attack it due to the large area it has affected and the restricted access. As per multiple reports, there is a good chance that the fire may rage for several more days.

The fire’s vast extent and the difficulties caused by restricted access have prevented firefighting troops from putting out the fire with conventional means. Thankfully, a canal that encircles a sizable chunk of the fire has been important in keeping it contained, according to the North Carolina Forest Service.
