San Francisco Mayor London Breed was spotted unmasked at a music show in the Black Cat nightclub in Tenderloin on Thursday, according to US media reports.
Cell phone videos, obtained by the San Francisco Chronicle, showed the Democrat standing and dancing without any food or drinks in her hand, without a face covering amid an unmasked crowd throughout the duration of the indoor event.
However, the city’s COVID-19 protocol only allows for masks to be removed “while actively eating or drinking.” It states, “People are urged to be seated at a table or positioned at a stationary counter or place while eating or drinking,” according to SFGate reports.
After the footage from the music show went viral, it lead to an uproar among the Twitter community. A user tweeted: “MASK MANDATORY in San Francisco, yet mayor @LondonBreed ignores the science. The hypocrisy can’t go unpunished, not this time.”
Meanwhile, another user wrote on Twitter: “San Francisco Mayor @LondonBreed partied maskless indoors with Black Lives Matter activists.
Do any Democrats actually obey their own mask mandates?”
As the coronavirus rampaged across the United States, Democratic leaders pushed for stringent COVID-19 protocols to be put in place. But with Breed, a Democrat herself, being spotted unmasked, the conservatives argued that the Democrats cannot obey their own mandates.
Meanwhile, a user complained: “@LondonBreed Tell me again why I have to workout in a mask in SF? We already have to show proof of vaccination to get through the door sooooo why do we also have to wear a mask if you can do this?!”
However, in a statement to the San Francisco Chronicle, Breed defended her actions and said, “at the end of the day, everyone who comes in here has to show proof of vaccination. That gives me a lot of reassurance.”
