Bharaitya Janata Party MP Jayant Sinha presented before the Lok Sabha the government’s Rs 2.35 lakh crore Supplementary Demands for Grants for 2020-21, which was passed along with The Demands for Excess Grants for 2016-17.

The Lok Sabha also passed The Appropriation (No.4) Bill, 2020 and The Appropriation (No.3) Bill, 2020.

Earlier in the day, a number of opposition leaders criticised the government for its response to the coronavirus pandemic during fifth day of the ongoing Monsoon session on Friday, including the economic fallout.

The Lok Sabha was adjourned four times as Opposition leaders created a ruckus, demanding an apology from Minister of State for Finance and Corporate Affairs Anurag Thakur, who said the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund was created for the Gandhi family.

His comments came in reply to the opposition’s issues over the PM Cares Fund, as he accused the Gandhi family of ‘cheating’ the public by accumulating money in trusts in the names of the members of the family.

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman tabled the Taxation and Other Laws (Relaxation and Amendment of Certain Provisions) Bill, 2020 in the Lok Sabha. Congress MP Shashi Tharoor has opposed the bill.

The Rajya Sabha passed two medical bills — The Homoeopathy Central Council (Amendment) Bill, 2020 and Indian Medicine Central Council (Amendment) Bill, 2020.

The Upper House also passed two bills — The Salary, Allowances and Pension of Members of Parliament (Amendment) Bill, 2020 and The Salaries and Allowances of Ministers (Amendment) Bill, 2020 — for reducing salaries of MPs and ministers by 30%. The amount saved will be used to aid the COVID-19 response.
