Firefighters in Georgia’s Peachtree City responded to a large fire at the local Walmart store. The blaze triggered a 3-alarm response by firefighters on Wednesday evening.

First responders to the fire arrived at 2717 Georgia Highway 54 around 7:30 PM local time. At the time, the heavy fire could be seen through the roof, Fox News reported.

Witnesses told authorities that dense black-coloured smoke could be seen rising from the complex. Reports also suggest parts of the roof may have collapsed.

So far, no injuries linked to the fire have been reported. Authorities have launched a parallel investigation into the incident. The extent of the damage is not currently known.

Some employees and customers were seen evacuating the Walmart complex using the back exit. 

According to reports from CBS News citing fire officials, at least one person is being treated for smoke inhalation at the site. Fire departments of Coweta County, Fayette County, and Fayetteville have also been roped in to tackle the blaze.

The Peachtree City Police Department, in a social media post, warned residents of “extreme delays” due to the traffic. The post read, “All lanes of Highway 54 at Planterra Way and the Walmart entrance will be shut down due to the fire in the area. Avoid the area.”

The police department suggested highway 54 to Macduff Parkway to Senoia Rd to Highway 74 and highway 74 to Senoia Rd to Macduff to Highway 54 west for detours.

The 3-alarm response triggered at Peachtree City’s Walmart on Wednesday meant that triple the amount of firefighters, trucks, and equipment were deployed. Such a response is initiated when a large fire need to be contained.
