A Philadelphia Walmart store was one of the hardest-hit by looting during the second night of unrest in the city on Tuesday, Fox29 reported. Protests erupted following the custodial killing of Walter Wallace Jr, a 27-year old African American man, on Monday afternoon.

According to Fox29, people poured into the store and left with a large amount of merchandise and items such as television.

Several cars jammed the parking lot, leading to a chaotic scene. As police arrived, several looters fled abandoning the stolen articles.

Looters even broke through the roof, leading to an overhead water pipe to burst that led to flooding in the store, Fox29 quoted a store security person.

Waterpipes were also broken in restrooms which added to the water damage.

As shelves were ransacked and store damaged, wet debris floated throughout the store and into the parking lot.

Cashboxes were stolen and at least one ATM machine was broken.

Similar cases of looting were witnessed in the area, Fox29 reported.

While it was underway, the city police issued an alert on a crowd of approximately 1,000 looting businesses in the city’s Castor and Aramingo area.

City’s Office of Emergency Management also alerted residents to remain indoors due to “widespread demonstrations” that “turned violent with looting.”

Following two nights of unrest, the city imposed a night-time curfew on Wednesday.
