The battle between former President Donald Trump and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis to secure the GOP nomination for the 2024 presidential run has begun for real. This was apparent as a pro-DeSantis banner saying ‘You Lost Again Donald!’ flew over Mar-a-Lago before Trump’s announcement on Tuesday night.

It is not clear who ordered the flight and banner to fly over his South Florida residence and golf club at the opportune time, but Michael Bender of the New York Times shared a snap of it on Twitter around 4 p.m. EDT.

“YOU LOST AGAIN DONALD!” the banner read. “#DESANTIS 2024.”

On the other hand, a number of MAGA supporters gathered outside Trump Tower in Manhattan, New York, chanting “USA!” while stomping on a DeSantis campaign poster, saying “Trump or death!” just before his announcement. They were dressed in pro-Trump clothing outside Trump Tower while carrying Trump signs, flags.

One of the men suggested that they would be “taking out” the governor if he dares to challenge the former president. “Ron has gotten too big for his britches,” one of the men said as they both stomped on the flag. “Let him stay in Florida for a while.”

“Trump or death!” the other man added. “Boom! We’re taking him out!” The flags also featured a URL that points to a website selling pro-Trump merchandise, so there is a possibility that the flag-stomping stunt might have been intended to promote website sales.

Earlier in the day, the former president wrote that he hoped Tuesday would “turn out to be one of the most important days in the history of our Country” in a Truth Social post.

After Republicans underperformed in the midterms, many conservatives were quick to blame Trump as having been responsible for a failure to reach independent voters. The former president has lashed out at DeSantis,  branding him“Ron DeSanctimonious.”

Meanwhile, a poll released after the midterms show DeSantis leading Trump by double digits in a number of battleground states.
