Iran’s supreme leader’s office has posted a photomontage of what looked like former US president Donald Trump playing golf under the shadow of a warplane, AFP reported. The montage also features a pledge to avenge the deadly 2020 drone strike that Trump ordered.

The post on Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s @khamenei_site Twitter account on Thursday warned there was ‘no escape’ from payback for the US strike outside Baghdad airport last year, which killed Iranian chief General Qasem Soleimani and his Iraqi lieutenant.

“Revenge is inevitable. Soleimani’s killer and the man who gave the orders must face vengeance,” the post said, according to AFP.

“Revenge can take place at any moment.”

Ahead of the January 20 inauguration ceremony, Trump left office on Wednesday and flew straight to his Mar-a-Lago golf club in Florida, keeping his word that he would not attend the swearing-in of his successor President Joe Biden.

Iranian officials have repeatedly said that Soleimani will be avenged. For instance, earlier this month, on the first anniversary of the drone strike, judiciary chief Ebrahim Raisi declared that not even Trump was ‘immune from justice’ and that Soleimani’s killers would ‘not be safe anywhere in the world’.
