Richmond residents were handed a shock on Friday night, September 23, when two people were shot outside Richfield High School’s homecoming football game. The incident resulted in the game being shut down while there were 11 minutes left to be played in the final quarter.

According to the authorities, the incident took place around 8:45 pm on Friday when Richfield was playing against Bloomington Kennedy High School. Live streaming of the game caught the sound of the shooting, before being taken down. The video showed players as well as fans panicking following the sounds of the shooting as they ran towards the exit.

A staff member of the school told the police that a group of unknown people were denied entrance to the game, who were waiting for the game to end outside the north end of the Richfield High School football field.

The shooting incident took place right outside of the stadium at 7001 Harriet Ave S in Richfield, Minnesota.

“A school staff member advised an on-site police officer that school officials had turned away a number of individuals from game entry that appeared to be waiting for the game to end. The individuals were gathered a short distance northeast of the football field,” a statement issued by Richfield police read.

The incident left two gunshot victims, who are 18 and 21 years old, both of whom suffered non-life threatening injuries. The younger victim was transported to a nearby hospital soon after and both victims are stable and will be okay, the authorities have said.
