A checkpoint of Russian forces located in the village of Krupets, Kursk, was destroyed by incoming shelling on Friday, according to a statement by the regional governor on Telegram.

“This morning in the Rylsky district near the border was not peaceful. Around 8:00 a.m. (local time) a checkpoint in the village of Krupets was shelled with mortar fire. The firing points were suppressed by retaliatory fire from our border guards and the military,” said Gov. Roman Starovoyt, while adding that “there are no casualties or damage.” 

Kursk, a region that lies on the RussiaUkraine border, has experienced several bombardments and attacks recently, according to its governor. Starovoyt added that he witnessed incoming fire earlier this week. He also revealed that two drones of Ukraine flying over Borovskoye were destroyed on Monday.

Russia has made several allegations about Ukraine attacking cross-border areas and spaces of military installations and fuel depots. Ukrainian agencies have said that accusations add fuel to “anti-Ukrainian sentiment.”

Meanwhile, Ukraine’s forces have said that Russia is targetting the regions of Luhansk and Donetsk through heavy shelling and airstrikes.

According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces, Russian troops are attempting to advance while using the Izium region as their staging ground. 

“The main effort was focused on reconnaissance, identification of defensive positions of the units of the Defense Forces of Ukraine and hitting them with artillery fire,” said the General Staff, according to CNN. 

 “In order to prevent the redeployment of our troops, the enemy is shelling the positions with artillery, mortars and multiple rocket launchers along the entire line of contact,” the statement further read.

In Luhansk and Donetsk, Ukraine’s forces “repelled nine enemy attacks, destroyed six tanks, one artillery system, twenty armored vehicles” on Thursday, according to the General Staff.
