Authorities don’t believe the incidents to be connected. In the wake of the shootings, the police chief sought to reassure citizens that the long arm of the law remained determined to catch the suspects responsible for the shootings

“With two separate incidents occurring so close together in such a short amount of time, it is understandable for there to be heightened concern among our residents; however, I want to reassure both of these communities that the Norfolk Police Department is working hard tonight to catch those responsible for both of these acts”, the interim chief said.

However, residents were shaken up by the violence and a woman, who only gave her first name as Katherine, told The Virginian Pilot “But it feels like this is happening every day. At this point, where do I go? Where can I safely shop? I have to wonder if I am going to be the victim of a stray bullet”, adding, “The community is so tired of it.”
