A large section of Grayslake, Illinois‘ Washington Street was put under lockdown after reports emerged of a shooting incident in the area. snbc13 has reported that said victim has died. The incident reportedly took place close to College of Lake County Grayslake’s campus. 

It was later revealed that the victim, a 23-year-old male, was shot while travelling in the passenger seat of a vehicle. The victim was taken to Northwestern Medicine Center Grayslake by the person who was driving the vehicle. Grayslake Police Department officials arrived at the Center at around 10:45 AM in the morning. The victim was pronounced dead a short while after being taken to the hospital, according to Christopher Covelli, a spokesperson for Lake County Major Crime Task Force.

The assailant was also in a car and had shot at the victim while travelling in the Washington Street area, Covelli further revealed. An autopsy on the victim will soon be scheduled by the Lake County Coroner’s Office.

Lake and McHenry County Scanner reports that one of its photographs has seen a number of bullet casings on Washington Street’s south side, which is near Lancer Lane. Police had cordoned off the area using crime scene tapes while they were investigating the incident. The traffic between Atkinson Road and Route 45 was shut down by police officials for a long time before being reopened in the afternoon.

A number of law enforcement bodies, including the Hainesville Police Department, Lake County Sheriff’s Office, and College of Lake County Police, were present in the area to investigate the shooting.
