A juvenile was shot Wednesday afternoon on the 500 Block of Pennsylvania Avenue. One male victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries and another person has been detained. The Savannah Police Department (SPD) is investigating the shooting.

According to a spokesperson with Savannah-Chatham County Public Schools, the victim, 15, was shot in the calf and sustained a non-life-threatening injury. The shooting did not involve an altercation and is believed to be random.

The victim was alert and conscious when EMS reached and took him to Memorial University Medical Center.

The shooting did not occur on the school grounds at Savannah High but in Savannah Gardens on Pennsylvania Avenue. The victim was walking down the sidewalk in front of the high school when a shot rang out from near the Savannah Gardens apartment complex. The school had already been let out for the day.

“SPD is investigating a shooting in the 500 block of Pennsylvania Ave that resulted in non-life-threatening injuries to a male victim. One person has been detained. Further details are not available at this time,” Savannah Police wrote on Twitter.

Police later announced that the person being detained is only being questioned and has not been charged. The suspect is not a student at Savannah High or any SCCPSS schools.
