SkyWest Airlines have been caught in an operational slump this weekend as multiple flights were called off for two consecutive days. The company is citing an internal technical issue for the cancellation, according to US media reports.
Here is what we know so far about the airlines and the flight cancellations:
-As many as 1,000 flights have been cancelled by SkyWest airlines on Thursday and Friday. The operational speedbump has left thousands of travellers stranded.
-The airline previously said that it was working on the issue. However, the aviation giant said that a large number of flights may be cancelled on Friday.

-The tracking software suggested that nearly 14% of the scheduled SkyWest flights had been cancelled while 4% were delayed.

-A spokesperson for Delta Airlines said, “Our technical teams engaged with SkyWest IT to resolve the issue and minimize the impact on our customers”, according to reports from USA Today. The statement added, “We are working with customers directly to accommodate them to their destination as soon as possible and apologize for the inconvenience.”
–SkyWest airlines also addressed the issue and that an “internal technical issue resulting in approximately 700 flight cancellations before the issue was resolved Thursday evening”, according to media reports. The statement added, “We apologize to customers for the inconvenience; we are working to minimize the impact on Friday’s schedule and to return to normal operations as quickly as possible.”
-SkyWest, based in Utah, is a regional carrier that operates flights for other airlines with planes that typically seat fewer than 100 passengers. SkyWest flights are listed as United Express, Delta Connection, American Eagle and Horizon Air. Passengers on those flights might not know that they are being operated by a regional airline.
