On Sunday afternoon in La Mesa, a tiny plane crashed not far from a church. The Heartland Fire & Rescue Department was called to the scene.

Firefighters were called to an airplane crash at 3:06 pm near the Lake Murray Community Church, which is located at 5777 Lake Murray Blvd, according to the PulsePoint online incident map. At least two people were pulled from the wreckage of the plane.

A fixed-wing aircraft with silver wings and orange decorations was visible in the scene’s video nestled in a gully behind Lake Murray Community Church.

Heartland Fire-Rescue firefighters arrived on the scene as soon as they could and started working to save at least one person inside the airplane. Heartland Fire-Rescue Department was dispatched to the 5000 block of Lake Murray Boulevard at 3:06 p.m. following reports of a plane crash.

A second individual was pulled alive from the plane crash’s debris not long after the first man.

According to the authorities, both victims were transferred to Sharp Memorial Hospital in San Diego with moderate wounds.

The single-engine Cessna 185 that crashed was carrying two individuals, the Federal Aviation Administration said in a statement. According to the FAA, the plane took off from San Diego’s Montgomery-Gibbs Executive Airport.

“The FAA and NTSB will investigate. The NTSB will be in charge of the investigation and will provide any updates,” the statement read.

Police in La Mesa asked that people stay away from the immediate area of the jet accident.

According to San Diego Gas & Electric, 3,280 individuals were without power as a result of the plane crash, with a restoration ETA of 8:30 p.m., according to the SDGE outage map.
