The Socorro High School, Texas was evacuated on Friday evening after reports of a person with a weapon at the campus. The premisis was also put into lockdown, Texas Department of Public Safety officials said.

The incident happened on Friday afternoon. The Socorro Police Department helped the Socorro Independent School District in the investigation. There was a large police presence at the scene. 

Officials further said that they received reports of a student carrying a gun in the high school campus. A student interviewed by El Paso Times, outside the school, said that they were told there was a hold ordered toward the end of the school day, then a second warning later was issued.

The student added that he heard two gangs were going to fight and someone pulled a gun. The students were released at around 5:30 PM. 

In a message posted online, the SISD asked parents to call the district at 915-937-0000 for more information.

The City of Socorro put a notice out about the incident, urging parents to pick up their students at the Vista Market parking lot at the corner of Alameda Ave and Moon Rd.

A parent of three children in the SISD said in a text message: “My husband is military, so I’ve always had a backup plan if and when he was to be KIA, but never for any of my three kids.

“I actually feel great about Robert Rojas (Elementary) and Ernesto Serna (School), but Socorro High School has just dropped the ball like no other. My family has lived all over and this is our second time in El Paso County. I do my best to have faith that all will work out but know, in the back of my mind, that disaster is a reality for anyone anywhere.”
