With the trial of former police officer Derek Chauvin, who is on trial for the death of George Floyd, the courtroom has been calling in witnesses, most of whom are bystanders, to provide testimonies about the incident. Charles McMillian, who is also a witness, broke down in the courtroom after a graphic footage of the incident was played.

During the third day of the trial, McMillan testified that he was urging Floyd, who was handcuffed, to cooperate with officers saying that he “can’t win”, reported CNN.

“The officer was, you know, trying to get him in the car and everything, talking to him, I was telling him, Mr. Floyd, Mr. Floyd just comply, get in the car because you can’t win. Something to that nature,” said McMillian in his testimony on Wednesday, reported CNN.

After McMillan broke down in tears on the witness stand, the prosecuting attorney attempted to comfort him, however, a recess was called by the judge before moving further with his testimony.

The prosecuting team of attorneys are attempting to convince the jury, consisting of five men and nine women, that officer Chauvin did not have to restrain Floyd from the neck.

Chauvin faces up to 40 years in jail if convicted of the most serious charge — second-degree murder, reported AFP.
