Calgary police have announced pending charges against two teenage brothers in connection with a fatal shooting at a Marlborough Park strip mall. The brothers, aged 14 and 18, were observed entering two residences in the southeast community of Dover after a truck linked to the Monday attack was found abandoned in the Chinook Centre parking lot. The shooting, which occurred outside the Save-On Foods store at the TransCanada shopping centre, resulted in one fatality and left two others critically injured. This incident marks the fifth shooting in less than a week in Calgary.

Staff Sgt. Sean Gregson from the homicide unit stated that the police believe this incident is connected to another shooting in the past week, though the specific connection is still under investigation. The suspects, whose identities are being protected, will also be scrutinized by the police to identify any others involved in the incident.

Gregson expressed concern about the rising gang violence in the area, emphasizing that the public faces an increased risk. Additionally, there is an ongoing investigation into whether criminals are exploiting minors to commit serious crimes, given the involvement of the 14-year-old suspect. Gregson highlighted the seriousness and concern surrounding the level of crime involving young offenders.

As the investigation unfolds, two residences in the 3200 and 3400 block of 30A Avenue S.E. have been cordoned off. Search and rescue teams have been conducting interviews and providing support to the neighborhood residents. The police are actively working to address the immediate threat and understand the broader context of recent violent incidents in Calgary.
