Senator of South Carolina Tim Scott is set to announce his bid for the US Presidency on Monday.

As published by the New York Times, Even though Mr Scott has consistently hovered around 2 per cent in Republican primary polls, he will enter the race with about $22 million in cash on hand, making him one of the most serious rivals for the front-runner, Donald J. Trump.

Scott will travel to Iowa and New Hampshire, the first two states in the Republican primary race, after announcing his candidature in his hometown of North Charleston. After the news of his announcement, Scott gathered a lot of attention from people.

Career- 

Scott ran in a special election held in February 1995 to fill the at-large position on the Charleston County Council left open by Keith Summey, who left his position after being elected mayor of North Charleston. Scott won the seat as a Republican with nearly 80% of the vote, in the district with an overwhelming majority of white voters.

Scott is the first African American to have held office in both chambers of Congress and one of 11 African-Americans to have served in the U.S. Senate. He is the fourth Republican senator and the seventh African-American elected to the Senate.
