Former President Donald Trump informed his followers on Truth Social that he was on his way to Washington DC to get arrested and arraigned on charges of conspiring to overturn his 2020 election loss.
Trump wrote on Thursday at 12:01 p.m. ET: “I AM NOW GOING TO WASHINGTON, D.C., TO BE ARRESTED FOR HAVING CHALLENGED A CORRUPT, RIGGED, & STOLEN ELECTION. IT IS A GREAT HONOR, BECAUSE I AM BEING ARRESTED FOR YOU. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!!!”

The current charges have been brought against him by special counsel Jack Smith. Smith indicted Trump earlier this week. He alleges that Trump and a half-dozen co-conspirators devised a plan to overturn his 2020 election loss which violated multiple federal statutes.
Trump is accused being involved in three criminal conspiracies:
- A conspiracy to defraud the nation “by using dishonesty, fraud, and deceit to impair, obstruct, and defeat” President Joe Biden’s electoral victory.
- A conspiracy “to corruptly obstruct and impede” congressional proceeding that was taking place on the January 6, 2021 at the Capitol building where the Electoral College results were being certified
- A conspiracy against “the right to vote and to have one’s vote counted.”
On August 2, Trump was notified that a federal grand jury had indicted him in connection with the special counsel’s investigation into his attempts to alter the 2020 elections results.

The indictment was sealed and no names or initials were mentioned in court, despite the fact that Molly Gaston, a prosecutor who handles January 6 cases, submitted it. Reports quickly verified that the former president had been informed that he had been indicted.
This will Trump’s third criminal, second federal, and first for his alleged actions while in office indictment.
“This is nothing more than the latest corrupt chapter in the continued pathetic attempt by the Biden Crime Family and their weaponized Department of Justice to interfere with the 2024 Presidential Election, in which President Trump is the undisputed frontrunner, and leading by substantial margins,” the Trump campaign said in a statement after the indictment was unveiled.
Trump went on to say the indictment as well as the charges against him were “reminiscent of Nazi Germany in the 1930s, the former Soviet Union, and other authoritarian, dictatorial regimes,” which incidentally resulted in the deaths of millions of people.
