White House national security adviser Robert O’Brien on Thursday said that President Donald Trump should be a front-runner for the Nobel Peace Prize citing his role in the fruition of the UAE-Israel peace deal.

“It’s really remarkable I think when you step back and take a look at what this president has done on the peace front,” O’Brien said during a White House press briefing. He also said that it wouldn’t surprise him if the president is eventually nominated for a Nobel Prize for his efforts.

“Today’s work is an example of why he would be rightly considered and should be a front-runner for the Nobel Peace Prize,” he added stating that Trump will be celebrated as a “great peacemaker.”

Last September, Trump had accused the Nobel Committee of being unfair. He said that he would have been considered for the Peace Prize if it was given out fairly.

In January, speaking at a campaign rally in Ohio, he reiterated the claim with a bizarre accusation. Trump said his Nobel Peace Prize was stolen from him by the Ethiopian Prime Minister.

East African leader Abiy Ahmed had received the award that year for brokering a deal to end the bloody conflict between his country and neighbouring Eritrea.

Unsurprisingly, his suggestion that he was overlooked for the Nobel was mocked online.

The House Foreign Affairs Committee went on to say that Trump is confused. “If they gave the Nobel for deals that didn’t happen, the Pres. would have a shelf full of them,” they said in a tweet.
