Police landed a helicopter in the middle of La Brea Avenue following a shooting at an apartment complex in West Hollywood on Friday morning. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s SWAT team reached the scene on Santa Monica Boulevard after a woman was moved to the hospital with gunshot wounds.

The victim was shot twice, once in the neck and the leg, but she is expected to recover, authorities said. The shooting happened around 8:10 AM on Friday in the 7000 Block of Santa Monica Boulevard.

The motive for the shooting is not clear. Police officials put up caution tape and barricaded the area during the investigation.

According to the sheriff’s office, deputies responded to the scene after residents reported screaming and loud bands. They found a woman in her 50s suffering from two gunshot wounds.

Several bullet holes were found in the victim’s front door. The bullets seemed to have been fired from the apartment located across the hall from the victims.

Police believe the alleged shooter might be inside the apartment building. An LASD helicopter landed on La Brea Avenue to deploy more SWAT officers to the standoff.

“SEB personnel will assume tactical command and Crisis Negotiation Team will attempt to make contact with the suspect to bring this to a peaceful resolution,” officials said in an update.

West Hollywood Mayor Sepi Shyne wrote on Twitter that the shooting may have “occurred at the Dylan or nearby,” referring to an apartment complex in the area.

The suspect has barricaded himself inside the apartment complex and deputies have established a perimeter around the building, the mayor said.
