Security is being amped up at the border just hours before Title 42 – the Trump-era immigration policy implemented when the coronavirus pandemic broke out to quickly expel asylum-seekers at the border – draws to a close under the Biden administration.

Videos of the preparation taken by border patrol agents as the policy’s end nears started circulating on social media. In one of the videos from a bus depot which has been the primary drop-off location after migrants are processed and released by Border Patrol, a Black Hawk helicopter was seen circling the grey and grim-looking skies.

News Nation correspondent Ali Bradley said that people don’t know what to expect when Title 42 ends. The situation at the birder is just going from bad to worse.

In another video taken at Yuma, Arizona, and uploaded by border reporter for Fox, Adam Klepp, an unending line of immigrants waiting to enter the US could be seen at the border. The reporter said that Title 42 was coming to an end at 9 pm local time in Arizona. When is Title 42 ending for the rest of the areas?

When is Title 42?

Title 42 is set to end on May 11 at 11:59 p.m., provided there is no last-minute development. This is because the national COVID-19 public health emergency is expiring, which automatically undermines one of the legal conditions of the policy.

Title 42 has infamously made grounds to expel migrants over 2.7 million times from the southern border, since it was enacted by the Trump administration in March 2020, according to official government figures.

The U.S. government argued that Title 42 was needed to contain the coronavirus. However, in April 2022, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said there was a lack of public health basis to continue expelling migrants. As a result, it announced it would phase out Title 42.
