Initial reports indicated that the Denver Police Department (DPD) was looking into a single-vehicle collision that had happened in the eastbound lanes of I-70 close to Colorado Boulevard. On Tuesday, around 12:20 a.m., the collision was reported.

However, as the inquiry went on, it was found that Kyle Van Loozenoord had died as a result of a shooting event, not an accident. The DPD has since shifted its focus to the homicide investigation and is working to gather further details.
