Republican Kevin McCarthy of California was elected Speaker of the US House of Representatives on Friday, after 15 rounds of voting over four days. McCarthy defeated 52-year-old Hakeem Sekou Jeffries by 216 to 212 votes, in the 15th round of votes.
McCarthy married his lifelong partner Judy McCarthy in 1992. The couple has a son and a daughter together. Their son is Connor McCarthy and their daughter is Meghan McCarthy.
