On Monday night, a shooter who has now been identified as Anthony McRae opened fire on the Michigan State University campus, killing 3 students and gravely injuring 5 others before turning the pistol on himself.
Who is Anthony McRae?
Born 1980 was the accused gunman of the Michigan State University (MSU) shooting. He entered two college buildings, turning both into shooting ranges while students hid and highly armed police officers rushed the area in search of the attacker.
Police said McRae died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound after they caught up with him hours later. Police published security photos of McRae walking inside a business while holding an unidentified object in one hand during the manhunt. A weapon was later found by police.
At a press conference, MSU Interim Deputy Chief Chris Rozman talked about the assault. “I can’t even begin to imagine what that motive would be. That will obviously be part of our investigation.”
The tragic attack represented the 67th nationwide mass shooting so far this year. Four or more persons must be murdered or injured in a single violent occurrence to qualify as a mass shooting, excluding the shooter.

Around 8:18 PM ET, according to Rozman, police began getting 911 calls reporting gunfire at Berkey Hall. Two kids were found deceased inside the building when police arrived.
Rozman claimed that shortly after, police were called to another gunshot at the close-by student union building, where they found the third victim to be dead.

Gretchen Whitmer, the governor of Michigan, said the MSU community was “reeling” after the shooting. We pray for those who are still fighting for their lives as we grieve the death of wonderful individuals today, she added.
