Arthur Williamson, a resident of the Detroit area, has entered a plea of no contest to charges of first-degree murder, assault with intent to murder, and unlawful imprisonment in connection with the tragic killing of WWJ news anchor Jim Matthews in September 2022.

Who is Arthur Williamson?
According to authorities involved in the case, Williamson is from Pontiac, Michigan. They added that Williamson was a friend of Matthews’ girlfriend Nichole Guertin. He will be sentenced on May 31.

Matthews, a 57-year-old overnight anchor at WWJ-AM, was tragically killed in Chesterfield Township, Michigan. He was struck with a hammer and stabbed, while his girlfriend Guertin and their two children sustained injuries.
According to Guertin’s testimony, Matthews was at work when Williamson was invited into their home by Guertin around 4 am to smoke crack and provide her with heroin.

After a certain duration, Guertin informed Williamson that he needed to leave as Matthews was expected to return. However, according to Guertin’s testimony, Williamson then brandished a knife, slashed her throat, and used zip ties to bind her ankles and wrists. He allegedly also declared his intention to harm Matthews
In the testimony, Guertin said that at the time of the incident, her children with Matthews- a 10-year-old son and a 5-year-old daughter- were asleep. She recounted that she later heard Matthews return home, and witnessed Williamson assaulting him.
According to her testimony, Williamson viciously attacked Matthews with a hammer, repeatedly striking him before slashing his throat.
