Congressman Byron Donalds of Florida has formally announced his intention to run for Speaker of the House of Representatives.
The 44-year-old declared his candidacy on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday. He has endorsed Donald Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign. “I look forward to getting the support of a majority of my Republican colleagues to become the next Speaker of the 118th Congress, the first Speaker from the great state of Florida, and the first Speaker of African American descent,” he declared.

This action comes after Rep Jim Jordan, who made three unsuccessful attempts to secure enough votes to become the leader of the GOP, was ousted by Republicans.

Erika Donalds, born in 1980 and raised in Naples, Florida, graduated from Florida Gulf Coast University with a degree in education. After graduating from college, she taught for a while before taking on her current position as a committed stay-at-home mother to her three sons.
She is a fervent supporter of conservative education policy and is a member of the board of directors of the charity Foundation for Florida’s Future, which promotes conservative ideals in education.
