Celeste Maloy, a once-unknown face in Utah politics, has emerged as a prominent figure in the state’s political landscape. As the Utah Republican Party’s convention winner and a contender in the GOP primary election for the 2nd Congressional District, Maloy’s background as a small-town southern Utah resident has been central to her success.

Who is Celeste Maloy?

Having spent her adult life helping Utahns navigate government bureaucracy and advocating for changes to better serve their needs, Maloy’s journey from a single-wide trailer in small-town Nevada to serving as a soil conservationist in Beaver and an attorney in Washington County showcases her dedication to public service.

Endorsed by retiring Congressman Chris Stewart, Maloy secured the delegates’ nomination with a surprise upset victory, defeating former state house speaker Greg Hughes.

Maloy’s humble demeanor and expertise in natural resources, water sustainability, and federal agencies have earned her Stewart’s endorsement and trust among party members. She aims to lead on policies that impact her constituents and tackle federal overreach concerning public lands.

Her campaign focuses on securing the border, protecting religious freedoms, defending the 2nd amendment, controlling spending, combating inflation, and fighting the abortion agenda.

However, Maloy’s primary campaign has faced challenges, including publicized concerns about her voter registration and allegations questioning her Republican credentials. Nevertheless, supporters believe she is the most conservative candidate and fully embodies the principles and values of Utah Republicans.

Despite being outspent by her well-known and well-funded primary challengers, former state legislature and senate candidate Becky Edwards and former Republican National committeeman Bruce Hough, Maloy believes her connection with voters in the 2nd District will be the key to her success.

With an invitation to 13 in-person debates in each of the 13 counties represented in the 2nd Congressional District, Maloy aims to present her priorities and demonstrate her commitment to serving the people.

“I’m trying to get in front of as many people as I can, and tell my story and talk about my priorities because I’m finding that they really resonate with the voters in this district,” Maloy said.

As the GOP primary election approaches, Celeste Maloy’s journey from a small-town country girl to a congressional candidate stands as a testament to her dedication to the needs of her constituents and her determination to make a difference in government policies.
