Geraldo Rivera, a well-known host, and political commentator, made the official announcement of his exit from Fox News on Thursday afternoon through a Twitter video, which he filmed aboard a boat.

Rivera in a tweet said, “Bumpy day on the North Atlantic. Anyway, I got fired from @TheFive so I quit Fox. After 23 years tomorrow Fox and Friends could be my last appearance on the network. Thanks for the memories.”

Who is Geraldo Rivera?

Geraldo Rivera is an American journalist, attorney, author, and political commentator, prominently known for his work on the Fox News Channel. From 1987 to 1998, he hosted the tabloid talk show called Geraldo. Rivera rose to prominence with the highly-publicized live TV special in 1986 titled “The Mystery of Al Capone’s Vaults.”

Rivera occasionally served as the host of Geraldo Rivera Reports. He also hosted the news magazine program Geraldo at Large. He had been a recurring co-host on the panel show since January 2022, supporting the liberal viewpoint. Alongside commentator Jessica Tarlov and former US representative Harold Ford.

The 79-year-old in his announcement said that he had lost his job on “The Five,” Fox’s daily roundtable political discussion program. He decided to leave as a result after being involved with the network for more than 20 years.

Long before Rivera’s resignation, there were rumors that he had been fired from The Five after having several on-air arguments with co-hosts Jesse Watters and Greg Gutfeld.

Last week, Rivera, a longstanding figure at FOX News since 2001, surprised many by announcing his abrupt exit on Twitter. He wrote, “It’s official, I’m off The Five. My last scheduled show appearances are Thursday and Friday, June 29th and 30th. It’s been a great run and I appreciate having had the opportunity,’ he said. ‘Being odd man out isn’t always easy.”
