Authorities have announced the arrest of the suspect involved in the triple homicide in Custer County, Colorado. The arrest was made by New Mexico State Police on Tuesday afternoon. The incident, which resulted in three fatalities and one person critically injured, occurred on Monday afternoon near the town of Westcliffe and was linked to a property dispute.
At approximately 2:30 p.m. on Monday, Custer County law enforcement issued a shelter-in-place order for the Rocky Ridge Road area in the northern part of Custer County, located northeast of Westcliffe. This precautionary measure has since been lifted.
Who is Hanme Clark?
The suspect has been identified as 45-year-old Hanme Clark. Law enforcement had earlier circulated information that he was driving a white Dodge truck with license plate BHLK27. The suspect and at least one of the victims were known to have been involved in prior civil disputes concerning property lines and easements. The nature of these disputes may have contributed to the tragic events that unfolded, leading to the shooting incident.
Hanme Clark, also known as “The Ruiner,” is recognized as an accomplished mixed martial arts fighter in Colorado, affiliated with Pancrase MMA in Denver. Standing at 6’3″ and weighing 185 pounds, Clark holds a purple belt II in Pancrase Mixed Martial Arts, a black belt III in Taekwondo, and experience in Kendo, a Japanese sword-fighting style. He has earned several titles through Pancrase.
In a concerning development, the organization Pancrase MMA posted a news item on its website titled “Former Pancrase Student and Colorado MMA Fighter Wanted for Shooting 4,” linking to a Daily Mail story about Clark being sought by the police.
Custer County Sheriff Rich Smith, in a Tuesday afternoon news conference, disclosed that he had sought the assistance of the U.S. Marshals Service in apprehending Clark.
Court records indicate that a man with the same name as Clark is a plaintiff in an ongoing property dispute in Custer County civil court dating back to 2020. However, there is no immediate clarity on whether or how the victims in Monday’s shooting are connected to this lawsuit.
