YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul and former UFC champion and boxing debutant Tyron Woodley are set to face off on Sunday in an eight-round boxing match at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse in Cleveland, Ohio.
It is the fourth pro fight for Paul, who knocked out former MMA star Ben Askren in April.
But, who is Jake Paul?
Born on January 17, 1997,
grew up in Westlake, Ohio, with his older brother Logan, who is also a YouTuber and internet personality.
Paul followed in his elder brother footsteps, beginning his YouTube career with prank videos and daily vlogs. Since then, sponsorship deals, marketing and merchandise businesses, along with forays into rapping and boxing have raised his net worth to $20million, according to Celebrity Net Worth.
However, his initial claim to fame was through Vine and by the time Vine was discontinued by Twitter Inc., Paul had amassed 5.3 million followers and 2 billion views on the app.
Following his success on Vine and YouTube, Paul was cast in the Disney Channel comedy Bizaardvark, where he played a character that took dare requests and then performed them.
However, the Disney Channel confirmed Paul’s departure from the series on July 22, 2017, in the middle of filming the second season of Bizaardvark. The revelation came after a news storey from KTLA concerning public concerns from Paul’s neighbours about the noise, parties, fire dangers, and big groups of Paul’s followers congregating in their area as a result of Paul’s pranks.
Paul later confirmed the announcement on Twitter, stating that he will now devote more time to his personal brand, YouTube channel, business endeavours, and adult acting jobs. After the KTLA episode, Paul disclosed in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter that he was truly dismissed from Bizaardvark by Disney, who wanted to speed up the process of weaning him off the show.
The 24-year-old’s boxing career began when he and his older brother Logan faced another YouTuber brother duo, England’s KSI and Deji Olatunji. Jake won the white-collar boxing battle against Deji with a technical knockout, while Logan and KSI boxed to a majority tie.
Paul has gone 3-0 (all KOs) since then, but his staff deserves credit for the matchmaking.
