Kevin Conroy, a voice actor best known for voicing Batman in multiple video games and animated shows, has died at the age of 66.
The news was confirmed by Poison Ivy voice actress, Diane Pershing, who worked with Conroy in Batman: The Animated Series. “Very sad news: our beloved voice of Batman, Kevin Conroy, died yesterday. He’s been ill for a while but he really put in a lot of time at the cons, to the joy of all of his fans. He will be sorely missed not just by the cast of the series but by his legion of fans all over the world… RIP, friend,” she wrote on Facebook.

The news has yet to be confirmed by Conroy’s estate and his cause of death is not known.
He leaves behind a legacy as one of the best Batman voices for 30 years. He first played Bruce Wayne in Batman: The Animated Series, and rose to become a definitive voice for DC’s iconic hero.

Who is Kevin Conroy?
Kevin Conroy was born on November 30, 1955, in Westbury, New York. In 1973, he earned a full scholarship to attend Juilliard’s drama division and moved to New York. After graduating from Juilliard in 1978, he toured with Houseman’s acting group The Acting Company.
He moved into theater and television acting, and eventually landed in voice acting with the launch of Batman: The Animated Series in 1992.

Since that time he has voiced the characters of Bruce Wayne & Batman in other projects including Batman Beyond, Justice League Unlimited, Batman: Mask of the Phantasm, the Rocksteady Arkham games, and more.
His big break came when he played Bruce Wayne in live-action in The CW’s Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover.

Following Conroy’s death, tributes have started pouring in on Twitter. Author Eric Italiano wrote, “Kevin Conroy passing away is devastating. His iteration of Batman is the first character I ever loved and set me on the life path I’m currently on. When discussing the all time pantheon Batman actors, his name will forever deserve to be mentioned near the top. Rest In Peace.”
