A woman identified as Pascale Ferrier has been sentenced to nearly 22 years in prison for sending threatening letters containing homemade ricin poison delivered to then-President Donald Trump at the White House in 2020.

She had also made threats to Donald Trump on X, including one urging someone to “please shoot Trump in the face.”

Who is Pascale Ferrier?

Pascale Cecile Veronique Ferrier is 56 years old. She is a dual citizen of Canada and France. She pleaded guilty to breaking the prohibition against using biological weapons earlier this year. Her crime of sending highly dangerous ricin-laced letters to then-President Donald Trump and eight Texas state law enforcement officers was the subject of her plea. The Justice Department made this information public in a statement on Thursday.

In September 2020, The envelope containing the toxic substance addressed to then-President Donald Trump was found in the White House mail sorting facility in Washington. The FBI was quickly informed after being alerted by U.S. Postal Service employees who thought it was unusual, according to an FBI affidavit that was submitted at the time with the charge filings.

Later, Ferrier admitted making the ricin herself, a poison made from waste products collected from the processing of castor beans. She confessed putting the ricin and the threatening note into the same envelope.

According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, ricin poisoning can have serious side effects and even be lethal, with mortality happening 36 to 72 hours after exposure, depending on the amount.

She had previously been jailed in Texas for a total of 10 weeks in 2019, according to the Justice Department, and she had thought that law enforcement officials were to blame for her incarceration at the time.
