A shot was fired at North Carolina GOP congressional candidate Pat Harrigan’s residence in Hickory last month, authorities confirmed. The home is owned by the politician’s parents.

Harrigan’s parents and children were at home when the shooting incident took place. No injuries were reported but it placed “tremendous stress” on the family in the final weeks of his campaign, the GOP candidate’s mother said Thursday.

The shooting was reported to police on October 19. No arrests have been made. The investigation is ongoing, Hickory Police Department spokeswoman Kristen Hart said.

Harrigan’s mother, Marla, told the Associated Press that she and her husband James Harrigan were watching television down the hall when a bullet shattered their laundry room window on the night of October 18.

The Hickory Police Department responded to their 911 call and noted in the police report that the incident involved a firearm.

Who is Pat Harrigan?

Pat Harrigan is the Republican nominee for North Carolina’s 14th Congressional District. He is 35 years old.

Harrigan is running for election to the US House to represent North Carolina’s 14th Congressional District. He is on the ballot in the midterm election on November 8. He defeated defeated Jonathan Simpson in the Republican primary on May 17 and now faces Democractic candidate Jeff Jackson.

The congressional candidate’s children, ages 3 and 5, were asleep in the bedroom directly above the room where the shooting occurred.

Harrigan spent his early years at San Diego and Wyoming. He was nominated by Senator Diane Feinstein to attend the United States Military Academy at West Point. He graduated with a degree in Nuclear Engineering.

The 35-year-old then commissioned into the Infantry, completed Ranger School, and was sent to Fort Wainwright, Alaska, for his first assignment as Infantry Platoon Leader. He was also deployed to Afghanistan and was in charge of roughly 350 Americans, Afghans, and expatriates.

He was selected for the Special Forces. He led his unit in Afghanistan.

Harrigan is a firearms manufacturer. Political analysts say the 2022 map favors Republicans in seven of the state’s 14 districts and favors Democrats in six, with one toss-up district in the Raleigh suburbs.

Pat Harrigan is married to his wife Rocky for 12 years. The two have two daughters Reagan (5) and McKinley (3).
