Pete Buttigieg is an American politician who currently holds the position of the United States Transport Secretary in the administration of President Joe Biden.

Buttigieg, who is now 39 years old, became the first openly gay individual to contest the Presidential elections in the United States. He was running in the race with representation from the Democratic party and went against prominent politicians like Bide and Senator Bernie Sanders.

In 2018, Buttigieg, who got educated from renowned institutions such as Oxford and Harvard University, married Chasten Glezman, a school teacher from the state of Michigan. The Transportation Secretary made headlines on Tuesday after announcing on Twitter about becoming a parent with his husband.

He wrote, “For some time, Chasten and I have wanted to grow our family. We are overjoyed to share that we’ve become parents! The process isn’t done yet and we’re thankful for the love, support, and respect for our privacy that has been offered to us. We can’t wait to share more soon.”

Buttigieg, who was born in South Bend, a small city in Indiana, was elected as the mayor of the city for two consecutive terms in 2011. However, his political career experienced a minor speedbump after he was deployed to Afghanistan for nearly seven months as an intelligence officer in the Navy Reserve, according to reports from the Indian Express.

After being nominated by Biden for the position of Transportation Secretary, Buttigieg cleared the approval from the United States Senate in early February this year. This made him the first-ever member of a White House cabinet who was openly gay. Buttigieg was confirmed by a strong bipartisan vote of 86 to 13.

“We are prepared to make sure that we use all relevant authorities to enforce the President’s executive order. To ensure that across all modes of transportation, workers, passengers, commuters are protected,” Buttigieg told Senate Democrat Ed Markey of Massachusetts during his Senate confirmation hearing earlier this year, according to reports from CNN.
