Rex Heuermann, a suspect in the Gilgo Beach murders, was taken into custody on Thursday night in Manhattan, according to the police. Heuermann is an architect and also a father of two with his wife Asa Ellerup. He was previously married to ex-wife Elizabeth Ryan.

Who is Elizabeth Ryan?

Elizabeth R. Ryan, Rex’s ex-wife, was by his side for a significant part of his life. Elizabeth was a junior planner for an office products company when she got married to Rex at St. Peter’s Church.

It is unknown at this time when Rex and Elizabeth were divorced or separated, and what were the reasons that led to their split.

Rex is currently married to his second wife Asa Ellerup, 59, and lives with her in Massapequa Park. The couple share a son and a daughter together.

Heuermann has been charged with three counts of first-degree murder and three counts of second-degree murder in connection with the deaths of Amber Costello, Melissa Barthelemy, and Megan Waterman. He was allegedly linked to the murders by cellular data from his burner phones, his car, and allegedly discovered hairs at the crime scene.

As per the investigators, Heuermann’s wife and kids were away from the city around the time when the three ladies went missing. According to the court application, during Waterman’s case, Asa was in Maryland. When Costello disappeared, she was in New Jersey, and when Barthelemy was last seen, she was in Iceland.

A fourth body, identified as Maureen Brainard-Barnes, was also discovered by the investigators. Heuermann, however, has not been charged in relation to Brainard-Barnes’ death. All four of the missing women were online escorts who vanished between 2007 and 2010.
