Bob Lee, a software executive and the creator of the mobile payment app Cash App, was stabbed to death in San Francisco, California. According to a press release from the police, they learned of the attack at 2.35 am on Tuesday and arrived at the site in the 300 block of Main Street.

Who was Bob Lee? When did he create Cash App?

Bob Lee was the Cash App’s inventor. He was born in 1980. He also helped to develop the Android smartphone running system. During the Covid-19 pandemic, Lee referred to himself as “Crazy Bob” and helped create a mobile app for the World Health Organization.

Lee worked as a software engineer at Google before becoming an investor in businesses such as Elon Musk’s SpaceX. He was also the Chief Technical Officer of Square, which is now known as Block. He worked for Redrock Communications, Southeast Missouri State University, and D’Arcy as a web coder. He previously worked as a senior analyst for Capgemini, Ajilon Consulting, and OCI.

Bob was the CTO of Square, Inc. before joining AT&T as a technological architect. He served as an advisor, Head of Software at PreDxion Bio, Inc., and a limited partner for SignalFire and SV Angel. Jack Dorsey, the co-founder of Twitter, claimed Lee was “instrumental” to Square and Cash App.

On October 15, 2013, Block, Inc. (which at the time of its debut was known as Square, Inc.) introduced Cash App under the moniker “Square Cash.”

US and UK residents can presently use Cash App. It facilitates money transfers from one individual to another. The app claimed approximately 70 million active users per year and $1.8 billion in gross profit in September 2021.

Lee passed away on March 5, 2023. He was stabbed to death in San Francisco, California on a Tuesday night.

Multiple tributes were shared on social media, including Joshua Goldbard, CEO of MobileCoin who said- “Lee was a force of nature. Helped to birth Android and CashApp into our world. Moby was his dream: a privacy-protecting wallet for the 21st Century. I will miss him every day.”
