Authorities claim that a suspect who was connected to the murder of a female victim at Plantation Motor Inn killed himself as they were attempting to capture him. The man has been identified as Clifton Washington.

When Lafayette Police Officers arrived at the scene on November 24, at around 5:22 p.m., they found a woman suffering from gunshot wounds on the 2800 block of the Northeast Evangeline Thruway. The Lafayette Police Department reports that Nancy Herrick, 39, of St. Martinville, passed away from her wounds.

Who was Clifton Washington?

Clifton Washington was 34 years old. He was a resident of Lafayette. On a charge of second-degree murder, the Lafayette Police Investigative Unit issued an arrest warrant for Washington.

At 8:44 a.m. on November 28, Washington was discovered by Lafayette Police and the U.S. Marshals Violent Fugitive Task Force at the Super 7 Inn and Suites, which is situated at 2111 NW Evangeline Thruway.

Washington locked himself in a room at the Super 7 when police attempted to arrest him. The SWAT unit of the Lafayette Police Department was called to the location in response.

At around 5:22 p.m., Lafayette Police Officers were called to the 2800 block of the Northeast Evangeline Thruway. Officers found a female victim suffering from gunshot wounds upon arrival. Regretfully, the victim passed away from her wounds. Detectives from the Criminal Investigation Division are on the site and actively working on the case.

The woman who was killed on November 24, 2023, in the 2800 block of NE Evangeline Thruway is Nancy Herrick, a 39-year-old resident of St. Martinville, Louisiana.

After successfully obtaining an arrest warrant, the Lafayette Police Department Investigative Unit charged Clifton Washington with one count of second-degree murder.

The Lafayette Police Department and the US Marshals Violent Fugitive Task Force apprehended Clifton Washington at The Super 7, which is located at 2111 NW Evangeline Thruway, Lafayette, LA 70501, on November 28, at about 8:44 in the morning.
