Elijah-Jay Mariano, a 15-year-old football player at the school, died after a devastating medical emergency during a practice session on Tuesday.

Elijah-Jay Mariano was a high school student from Windsor, Connecticut. The incident unfolded when Elijah-Jay lost consciousness during the practice, despite not being engaged in any football drills or tackling, as confirmed by Windsor Superintendent Terrell Hill.

The coaching staff immediately administered first aid while awaiting the ambulance’s arrival. Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) and Windsor police also joined the efforts, performing CPR in an attempt to save the young athlete.

However, despite the swift response and medical attention, Elijah-Jay Mariano was taken to Connecticut Children’s Medical Center in Hartford, where he later passed away.

Elijah-Jay, new to the school system and the area, leaves behind a grieving community. Crisis teams have been made available for students and staff at Windsor High School and Sage Park to help them cope with the loss.

The school expressed their sorrow in a statement and requested privacy and respect for Elijah-Jay’s grieving family during this incredibly challenging time. Superintendent Terrell Hill is set to provide an official statement later in the week.
