Teddy Ray, the comedian and internet personality, died at 32. Comedy Central tweeted “Teddy Ray was a hilarious and beloved performer. He’ll be deeply missed by the entire comedy community” while Hoorae Media, a production company founded by Issa Rae added, “Rest in Power to our longtime creative collaborator and friend, Teddy Ray. Grateful for the energy you always brought to our projects and sets!” 

Born and raised in Los Angeles, Ray quickly became known for his high-pitched voice, wit, and ability to make jokes about himself. His cause of death hasn’t been made public yet.

The comedian celebrated his birthday on July 30 and his last Instagram post was about how far he’s come along. “Pulling up on 32 like…..Lord I thank you for another lap around this hot a** sun”, Ray said. 

Ray gained fame by appearing on Russell Simmons’ digital comedy stream All Def Digital. He was also a cast member on MTV’s Wild ‘N Out, which had Nick Cannon at the helm and hosted a podcast with Lewis Ray, called The Cali Kickback. 

Katt Williams and Simmons, legends of their craft, frequently collaborated with Ray, whose content often went viral. Within a year of starting his career in standup, Ray was offered his first TV special on BET.

The news of Ray’s death led to an outpouring of messages on social media, praising the young comedian’s talent. 

Musician Jean Deaux tweeted, “I just saw the news about Teddy Ray’s passing. Teddy has been such a great friend to me over 5 years now. i been to damn near every one of his comedy shows in LA since he started em. one of the funniest ppl i know seriously. this is really heartbreaking man. RIP teddy damn bro.

Desus Nice, former co-host of Desus & Mero added about the West LA comedian, “rip teddy ray, he was a real one”.
