Regional School Unit 5 officials have released a statement saying that Theo Ferrera, a 14-year-old boy who had been attending Freeport High School, has been found dead after going missing on Thursday, September 23.

Jean Skorapa, RSU 5 Superintendent, wrote a letter to the community in which he said, “It is with a heavy heart that I write this letter to inform you that this afternoon, Theo Ferrara was found deceased. Our sincere condolences to Theo’s family and friends. During this time as the school community processes this news and copes with grief, the school district will offer counseling and bereavement support to all students and staff.”

Who was Theo Ferrera?

Theo Ferrara was 14 when he went missing last Thursday. A student at Freeport High School, Ferrara was last seen on September 23 at 4:30 PM. He was then carrying with him a royal blue backpack, and wearing neon shorts and a white windbreaker, underneath which he had on a t-shirt.

Ferrara was 5 feet 7 inches in height and weighed 125 pounds, the police have said. His hair and eyes were brown in colour. His mother’s name is Mia Kulla Ferrara. She is currently a self-employed consultant and also works at Best Buy. She has been living in Freeport along with her family since 2014. Theo also has a cousin called Francesca Ferrara who shared Mia Kulla’s post on Facebook where the latter put out an appeal for any information regarding her son.

When the police talked to his friends at school, they said that on Thursday Theo Ferrara was with them at a school pep rally. Although he had to return to school to submit an art project, the teenager was not heard from since Thursday afternoon.

Theo’s body was retrieved from the ocean in the area where an extensive search was being carried out. His mother had thanked on Facebook everyone who had contributed to the search.
