A popular American rapper who went by the name ‘Young Dolph’ was shot dead in a cookie shop in Memphis, Tennessee, on Wednesday. The Chicago-born artist’s demise has been confirmed by police officials who arrived on the scene. Reports suggest that he was shopping at Makeda’s Homemade butter cookies when someone drove up and shot him.

The 36-year-old rapper’s real name was Adolph Robert Thornton and he was popular for songs such as ‘Major’, ‘1 Scale’, ‘Case Closed’ and ‘On the River’, and his album titled ‘Rich Slave’, which was released in 2020.

‘Rich Slave’ debuted at number 4 spot on the Billboard 200.

Dolph was a cousin of Juice WRLD, the popular rapper who died of a drug overdose in 2019 at the age of 21.

The rapper moved to Memphis when he was just two years old in order to live with his grandmother who raised him. He graduated from the Hamilton High School and according to Joris Roy, the superintendent of Shelby County Schools, the rapper was a generous supporter of schools in the area.

Reportedly, he donated $25,000 to his old high school at least once and was often seen making visits to schools in the area and talking to  students in the process.

Young Dolph’s debut studio album ‘King of Memphis’ came out in 2016 and climbed to the 49th spot on the Billboard 200 chart. He put out a total of seven albums in his highly successful career as an artist.

Adolph Robert shot to fame following the release of his mixtape Welcome to Dolph World in 2011. In the following years he became the owner of music label Paper Route Empire, commonly referred to as PRE, which represents artists such as Key Glock and Big Moochie.
