Tara Book and Brittany Buras are a mother-daughter duo who have died in a murder-suicide incident at Lane Street in Louisiana’s Mandeville. On Tuesday morning, St. Tammany Sheriff’s Office said that the duo had been pronounced dead.
Book, the mother, had called 911 to say that she had shot her daughter, and that she was going to shoot herself as well. While on the call, the dispatcher heard a noise that was apparently a gunshot wound.
Who were Tara Book and Brittany Buras?
Tara Book, 43, was a native of Louisiana’s Port Sulphur, according to her Facebook profile. Her daughter, Brittany Buras, was 23 at the time of her death.

Book went to Belle Chasse High School, from where she graduated in 1998. She often posted pictures from her travels on her social media profile. A fan of the band Journey, she had attended a concert of the outfit in April 2022. Her mother’s name is Evelyn Broussard Book.
Brittany Buras studied at Delgado Community College, where she had enrolled in 2020. Buras’ Facebook profile suggests that she was a fan of the Game of Thrones spinoff series, House of the Dragon, since she often shared screen grabs and artwork related to the show. Buras, who had been on a trip to Japan in March 2021, was in a relationship at the time of her death.

The bodies of the aforementioned duo were discovered by St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s deputies. The autopsies of their bodies will be carried out tomorrow, after which the official cause of death will be revealed. The investigation into the case is currently ongoing.
In Louisiana, anyone above the age of 18 who can procure a gun in accordance to federal and state laws is permitted to openly carry a gun.
