Senator Majority Leader Chuck Schumer is doing the rounds as he promises to legalise marijuana with or without the support of US President Joe Biden. He first introduced the bill in 2018 and as he has the majority in his hand, Sen. Schumer looks forward to pass the new marijuana reform bill with Senator Ron Wyden from Oregon and Senator Cory Booker from New Jersey by his side.

In an interview with Politico, the Majority Leader said on Saturday that, “the specifics of the Reform bill are not clear yet but at some point, we are going to move forward with this.” Over 40% of Americans now reside in states where marijuana has been legalised.

When asked in the interview if Joe Biden’s views are aligned with his and what if he doesn’t agree to support the bill, the Senator said, “He said he’s studying the issue, so we obviously want to give him a little time to study it. I want to make my arguments to him, as many other advocates will.” After which, the Senators would move forward to get the bill passed.

He took his support for marijuana to Twitter and wrote, “I’m working with @SenBooker & @RonWyden on comprehensive marijuana reform legislation. We must end the federal prohibition on marijuana, make criminal justice reforms, and ensure equity for communities—especially those of color—impacted by the War on Drugs.”

When asked in the interview if marijuana will completely be out of the Controlled Substance Act, Schumer told the news agency that he will hold on to the specifics of the bill and everyone will need to wait for that.

“The majority leader’s most important act is to put bills on floors,” said Senator Schumer, further he added that, earlier Mitch McConnell, ex-majority leader would not bring the bill up, but with me in the forefront, “I will bring the bill, and it will have my full support.”
