Ukraine swapped 86 of its soldiers with Russia, a senior Kyiv official said on Friday.

“Friends, good news. An exchange has just taken place. Some 86 Ukrainian servicemen, including 15 women, are already safe,” Kyrylo Tymoshenko, the Ukrainian president’s deputy chief of staff said in a video address on Telegram.

Tymoshenko added that the exchange occurred as per the agreements of the negotiating groups. The exchange, that released servicemen from Russian captivity, occurred on April 1 in Zaporizhzhia Oblast. The number of Russian soldiers swapped remains unknown.

Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Iryna Vereshchuk said that the servicemen are “already being taken home.”

“By order of President Zelensky, the second exchange of prisoners has just taken place. We are taking 86 of our servicemen home! Some 15 of them are women! I appeal to all of our people who are still in captivity: we will fight for each of you! We will return everyone home. Hold on,” the Minister for the Temporarily Occupied Territories of Ukraine said on Facebook.

The first exchange of prisoners of war between the two countries took place on March 24, according to several reports.

Vereschuk added that in exchange for ten invaders, Ukraine released ten of its servicemen.

Furthermore, about 11 Russian civilian sailors who were taken from a sunken ship near the Ukrainian city of Odesa were swapped for 19 Ukrainian civilian sailors from the Sapphire rescue ship. The ship was captured by Russian invaders from Zmiyiny Island.

Meanwhile, as peace talks between the two countries resumed, Russia accused Ukraine of a cross-border airstrike on an oil depot in the Belgorod region.

“Certainly, this is not something that can be perceived as creating comfortable conditions for the continuation of the talks,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.
